Seth Makes First National Tour Feature At Steve King Memorial

seth-oklahoma-5-20-09bAfter weeks of frustration due to rain outs the racing has been fast and plentiful for Seth and the team. After a strong performance at the Red Rivershoot Seth was eager to get back out on the track with the National tour drivers.

The Steve King Memorial weekend at Jetmore Motorplex was the scene for this weekends ASCS Lucas Oil K&N Filters two night show. Pill draws have not been friendly for Seth this season but lady luck was on Seth’s side for Saturday’s draw as he drew a third position for heat race number four. As the race started Seth got away to great start and was roaring towards the front but things got crazy real quick as the rotar on the back of the car broke causing Seth to lose the ability to slow down the car. Luckily Seth was able to bring the car to a stop witout causing any major damage to himself and the car. With the car needing a brand new rotar the team decided to take the rest of the night to prepare for night number two and so Seth’s race night unfortunately came to end.

Lady luck was not on Seth’s side at the pill draw for Sunday night’s heat and he was forced to start at the back of the grid for heat race number five which saw him up against National tour regulars Tim Crawley, Brian Brown and Tony Bruce Jr.  Seth got away to great start to the heat and as the laps passed he continued to get better and better as he got around Tony Bruce Jr and Gavin Punch in the middle stages of the heat and with laps winding down he was right on the heels of Tim Crawley. As the two came into the last lap Seth threw everything he had to take second but Crawley held onto second. Seth’s great performance in coming from the back of the field resulted in him being top points scorer after the heats and guranteed himself a top eight start for the main event. With the great result of the heats Seth managed to draw a two which saw him starting on the front row next to his good friend Wayne Johnson.

As the race went green Seth lost traction and spun his tires which resulted him losing ground on the first lap. Seth was trying to work the grooves on the top of the track but it just wasn’t giving him the results he was looking for as Shane Stewart, Jason Johnson, Travis Rilat, Jack Dover and Gary Wright were all getting better results on the bottom and where able to get by the 23. Seth changed his line in the middle stages of the race and started to see better results as he was able to climb back inside the top ten. Just as the car was starting to roll better a caution came out on lap seventeen. On the ensuing restart traction was again an issue and Seth lost ground to the drivers behind him. seth-oklahoma-5-20-09

As the laps ticked over Seth was able to hold onto thirteenth place at the checkered flag. “It was dissapointing to slip so far back after starting on the front row. There were some things we could have done different on the car, and there were some things I could have done differently as a driver. These guys make you pay when you make a mistake” said Seth after the race. “It was great to make our first feature on the National Tour and I know I have the ability to match it with these guys week in week out. We are learning a ton every week and I know a top finish is not far away”

With the team making it’s first feature of the season there is definatly a sense of confidence that the team can match it with the countries best. Seth and the team is going to take the week off before it prepares for the opening race in Arkansas of the ASCS National Tour Speedweek.

Stay tuned for more news shortly.
