2008 Season Review: Seth Bergman
2008 was a season Seth Bergman will look back on with some satisfaction. After a strong finish to the 2007 campaign Seth was looking to take those positive results into 2008 and show everyone that he is one of the top drivers in the Pacific Northwest.
With the American Sprint Car Series (ASCS) taking over the NSCS to form the Northwest Region there was much anticipation at the beginning of the season for the local series. With only 17 races being contested with the ASCS the season was once again filled with additional races down in California as well as nights with the local Skagit Speedway and Grays Harbor racers.
2008 was once again a jam packed season with Seth running 34 times over the course of the season in both 360 full winged and 410 full winged events. It was a much improved season for Seth as he took home is first ASCS 360 sprint car win on Memorial weekend as well as 360 win at his local Skagit Speedway. One of the definite highlights of the season was Seth’s first win in a 410 at Skagit Speedway when he slid under Mitch Olson on the last corner to take the win. With three wins, seven top five finishes and fifteen top 10 finishes and a fifth place finish in the ASCS Northwest points standings 2008 was defiantly a season Seth and his team can look back on and be satisfied with their results.
Going into the start of the 08 season Seth clearly had a point to prove. “It was great to win races this year. 2007 was the first racing season I had ever had where I didn’t win a race and that didn’t sit well with me going into the start of last year. My dad and the team worked their butt during the season and always gave me the best chance to perform well each weekend” he stated.
At just 21 years of age Seth still has a lot to learn but his results showed in 2008 that is improving and has the ability to match it with the best night after night. “I learnt a lot this year racing against the top drivers in the country. I know there were nights that I didn’t drive well but there was always something I took away from it” Seth stated. It was evident at last years Gold Cup in Chico that Seth does have the ability to match it with the best. He raced his butt off in the feature event and was running in the top 10 before he was taken out by Bud Kaeding. “It was great to make the main event at Gold Cup as I really hadn’t had a lot of success at this event. It feels good when you are right up the front running with the best in the sport”.
2009 promises much for Seth and his team. At this stage the team is looking to potentially make the giant step of running full time on the ASCS National tour with 360 stars Gary Wright, Jason Johnson and Wayne Johnson. The team is looking for potential sponsorship partners and we will keep you posted on this breaking news.
Thanks again to everyone for the support and emails that came through over the course of the season both Seth and the team greatly appreciate it.
